Mechanical Workshop Manager

Job Description

Oversee the day-to-day operation of all workshop activities and the powerhouses on Laucala Island and at Onodere (Qamea Island)

Responsible for monitoring, ordering and bunkering bulk fuel (diesel and ULP) for Laucala and Onodere (Qamea Island) operations

Responsible for assigning workshop staff and other staff as directed.

Schedules work activities and personnel attendance.

Responsible for planning the development of the Mechanical Division of the Technical Services Department.

Responsible for assisting and planning annual CAPEX budgeting with engineering management

Ensures that all static and mobile plant and machinery is professionally maintained and in a safe and reliable state of repair and visual appearance.

Directs, and is actively engaged with, all repair and maintenance activities.

Troubleshoots mechanical, hydraulic, and automotive electrical issues.

Ensures that the workshop is always a safe and clean working environment.

Ensure that critical & essential spare parts and consumables are always available in stock.

Orders spare parts and liaises with procurement department and suppliers regarding order and stock keeping procedures

Implements a strong preventative maintenance program for all machinery including all generators on Laucala and Onodere islands. 

Maintains vehicle maintenance logs and other reports as required

Set par stocks, control and reorder spares according to such

Move to a digital system of cataloguing assets, maintenance history, drivers log etc.

Development/documentation of workshop repair and maintenance policies, procedures, and forms

Daily machinery check procedures and forms

Library of repair manuals

Records of service history for all machinery

Development of Training Materials for local staff

Development of Workshop related Standard Operating Procedure

Development of workshop related Safety Procedures

Provide a monthly report to the chief engineer on the tasks completed and results.

Any other duties that may be assigned by your manager from time to time.

Skills/Qualifications Required

Must have at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role as workshop manager or senior diesel mechanic

Trade Certificate in Mechanical & Automotive Engineering

Good practical knowledge of working with both, heavy and light, mechanical machinery.

Good understanding and experience of generators control systems

Practical experience in welding & fabrication.

Good knowledge of OHS requirements.

Has good organization skills with the ability to plan and carry out works as required.

Competent computer literacy skills with MS Office applications. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and other Company programs.

A positive attitude with a flexible approach to working hours.

Be a confident team leader who can coach a team and support their development.

Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers and staff.

Must be able to live and work in a remote island environment and community

Fluency in English is essential. Must have ability to read and analyse product manuals and installation guides and communicate with 3rd parties in fluent English.
